Use Your ChatGPT or Claude Plan to Run Your Finances

You can run Quill's finance assistant on the ChatGPT or Claude plan you already pay for. Connect it in a few clicks, with no API key and no extra AI fee from Quill. The difference from a plain chat is what sits behind it: books proved to the cent, and actions that need your click.

Use Your ChatGPT or Claude Plan to Run Your Finances

If you already pay for ChatGPT Plus or Pro, or for Claude Pro or Max, you do not need another AI bill to get help with your money. Quill's assistant can run on the plan you already have. This guide explains how that works, what changes compared with a plain chat, and the privacy trade-off. It is part of our guide to an AI financial assistant that does the work.

Can you use ChatGPT Plus for budgeting without an API key?

Yes, in Quill. You connect your ChatGPT subscription, or your Claude subscription, and the assistant uses it. No API key is needed, and Quill adds no AI fee.

The plan names change over time, so check the official pages for your current options: ChatGPT plans and Claude plans. Quill also accepts an API key from Anthropic, OpenAI or Google if you prefer pay-as-you-go.

What are your connection options?

There are three, and you pick one.

OptionWhat you needExtra cost from Quill
Claude subscriptionA Claude plan; one click on MacNone
ChatGPT subscriptionA ChatGPT planNone
API keyA key from Anthropic, OpenAI or GoogleNone from Quill; the provider bills its own usage

Every answer says which AI wrote it, so you always know what you are reading.

Why not just paste your numbers into a chat?

You can, and for a one-off question it works. The problem is that a blank chat rebuilds your numbers every time and has nothing to check them against.

With Quill, the assistant works on your verified books. Every figure it quotes comes from statements Quill has already proved against the bank's printed totals, to the cent. If your data cannot answer a question, it says "Not in your data" rather than guessing.

The key point: the AI plan you already pay for supplies the thinking. Quill supplies the proved books and the guardrails.

What can the assistant do that a chat cannot?

It has a fixed list of 44 actions, in three kinds.

Every proposal card says how many charges and how much money it touches, and "Nothing has happened yet." Only your click applies it, and Quill saves a safety backup first. See how that plays out for sorting in how to automatically categorize bank transactions.

The hard limits stay in place whichever AI you connect. It cannot delete statements or transactions, move money, pay bills or cancel subscriptions. It is not a licensed financial advisor, and it does not recommend investments. It also handles one-time sums: see the planner behind debt snowball vs avalanche decisions.

What does the AI provider see?

Whichever you pick, the provider is a cloud service, and it sees what it needs to answer you. We want that to be plain.

When you ask the assistant something, a summary of your finances goes to the provider you chose. That summary includes totals, trends, top categories, top merchants, largest charges, subscriptions, and debts with balances and rates, plus any charges it looks up. Your PDF statement files are never uploaded. Receipt reading happens on your computer and receipts are never sent to an AI.

Nothing goes to an AI until you ask the assistant something or press an AI button. If you ask AI to read a tricky statement, that statement's text goes to your provider. Switch AI off and none of this happens. Your financial data lives on your computer, not on our servers. For more on this design, see whether it is safe to share bank statements with finance apps.

What does it look like in practice?

You ask in plain words and the assistant answers from your books. A few examples of questions it handles.

Each change it suggests arrives as a card you can approve or ignore. A red badge on the assistant also counts items worth your attention, such as payments due, price hikes or double charges. Each one comes with "Help me", "Remind me later" and "Dismiss". It moves no money: a pay step tells you to pay on your bank's own site.

What does it cost?

Quill is a one-time purchase with no subscription, and updates are included. Check the pricing section for current prices. The assistant itself is part of the paid version. The AI behind it is billed by whoever provides your plan or key, so if you already have a plan, there is no second AI bill.

Is this a replacement for ChatGPT Finances?

It is a different route, not a rival you must choose against. ChatGPT Finances links accounts through Plaid. Quill needs no bank login. You can use both, and Quill's assistant can run on your ChatGPT plan. We compare them fairly in ChatGPT Finances vs Quill.

No. You can connect your Claude subscription (one click on Mac) or your ChatGPT subscription. An API key from Anthropic, OpenAI or Google also works if you prefer one.

What does the AI provider see?

When you ask the assistant something, a summary of your finances (totals, trends, top categories and merchants, largest charges, subscriptions, debts with balances and rates) and any charges it looks up go to the provider you picked. Your PDF statement files are never uploaded.

Can I turn the AI off?

Yes. With AI switched off, no financial data leaves your computer, and the rest of Quill keeps working.
