Installing Quill on Windows

Two clicks to get past Windows' one-time safety screen. ~30 seconds

When you install a brand-new app, Windows shows a blue "Windows protected your PC" screen. This is normal and expected - it appears for any app that Microsoft hasn't seen downloaded thousands of times yet. Quill is safe. Here's exactly how to continue. A Microsoft-recognized signed installer is on the way, which will remove this screen entirely.

1. Open the installer

   After the download finishes, open it from your Downloads folder (or your browser's downloads bar). The file's name starts with Quill and ends in .exe.

2. Click "More info"

   If the blue screen below appears, click the small More info link. (If you don't see it, you're already past this step - just continue.)

   Microsoft Defender SmartScreen prevented an unrecognized app from starting. Running this app might put your PC at risk.

   ↑ Click the underlined More info text.

3. Click "Run anyway"

   A Run anyway button appears. Click it, and the normal Quill installer opens.

   ↑ Click Run anyway.

4. Finish the installer

   Follow the prompts (Next → Install). Quill opens automatically when it's done - no terminal, no Python, nothing else to set up.
